Volunteers for Peace Vietnam places approximately 30% of their volunteers teaching English or French in Educational Projects. The aim of the program is to provide an English language speaking environment for children, and to practice and improve their confidence communicating in a foreign language. Nam Trung Yen Secondary School is one of places where VPV volunteers are working in Hanoi. There are also volunteers teaching English and Franch in primary schools, colleges and universities. The University has been at its current location since 1956. HNUE was a member of Hanoi National University for 5 years (1994-1999). According to the Decision No 201/QD-TTg on 12th October 1999 by the Prime Minister, the University was separated from the Hanoi National University and became one of the 14 key national universities in Vietnam.
