The University has been at its current location since 1956. HNUE was a member of Hanoi National University for 5 years (1994-1999). According to the Decision No 201/QD-TTg on 12th October 1999 by the Prime Minister, the University was separated from the Hanoi National University and became one of the 14 key national universities in Vietnam.
